For general info - taken from blood service in UK:
People who are planning to undertake exercise after giving blood should be advised that donation may affect their performance and may also increase the risk of bleeding from the venepuncture (needle entry) site and of other adverse events such as fainting. You may wish to wait until the following day so as to avoid any problems.
Individuals who undertake sport at high levels of performance should be aware of both the short term effect of blood donation on performance and the possible long term effects if they should become short of iron. You may wish to seek specialist advice on how to avoid adverse affects on your performance from donation.
If you have undertaken exercise before you donate, you will need to be recovered from the exercise and well hydrated in order to donate.

I gave blood on a Tuesday once, ran on Thursday, and then did a parkrun on the Saturday. My notes say it "felt hard for the last 2K". I generally keep well (some would say excessively) hydrated.

I gave blood today. Will see if I fancy a gentle trot around a parkrun tomorrow, nothing too strenuous.
Mint Club biscuit and a blackcurrant squash. Nice.

Gave blood yesterday reaching the giddy heights of completing my donation in 4.01 mins Totally agree with Tonyp... my run *ahem* today was RUBBISH (but at least I didn't stop to walk... well it wasn't much faster than a walk ;-))

After 102 units I can no longer give blood due to a dicky ticker, irregular heart beat apparently, however the upside is that my running pace has improved by up to 50secs / mile. Gutted about having to stop donating but they won't stop me running! Accrington 10k on Sunday & I will be there at the back enjoying the trip.

i was declined as a blood donor today as my haemoglobin was 118g/l and has to be 25g/l or above for a lady. A bit peeved as had cost £15.50 taxi fares! Am a 1st time donor and with a complex medical history it needs reviewing by 2 clinicians and my GP may be contacted as well as my psychiatrist.
