I'm brushing up on my French for a visit to the Alps in May. I hope that doing a bit every day will help me remember and get me used to spoken French. I can usually understand quite alot of what the neighbours say but can't think quickly enough to hold a conversation, so I'd like to be better this time.

When I've been to France in recent years, I've been a bit like what .B. describes. I can read the language well, and can put together a reasonably correct sentence if I've got time to think, but conversation is frustrating because I can understand big chunks of what's being said but can't think quickly enough to compose a proper reply.
