Since there’s a new thread...

I make a mean chilli with a slab of brisket liberally spiced and deeply scored (almost cut through) into diagonals with a sharp knife. After it’s cooked (5h upwards) I shred with a pair of forks.

If using dried kidney beans I’ve taken to giving them 5 mins in a pressure cooker first as slow cooker is not necessarily hot enough. Not that I ever had a problem with them before I started doing that.

The rest of the recipe is just your favourite chilli. Slow cooker tends to be a bit wetter and blander than a quicker hotter cook so be prepared to adjust slightly to taste.

Caramelized onions in the slow cooker: slice as many onions as will comfortably fit to about halfway up the bowl. Dribble a little olive oil and some balsamic vinegar over, mix in thoroughly, and cook on slow all day, a good 8-10 hours. Stir once in a while. For the last couple of hours maybe leave the lid slightly ajar to let juices cook off if they're too much. Should produce lots of lovely sweet, browned, and properly caramelized onions.

^^^ That sounds like a brilliant idea I love caramelized onions. Will give that a try.

I've made porridge in a slow cooker and it came out ok.
Put in the oats with your usual amount of milk/water, whichever you prefer, turn it on low last thing at night and it's ready first thing in the morning!

I've looked at porridge recipes for the slow cooker but on the other hand, you can make it perfectly well in 3 minutes in the microwave!

Made a lovely Xmas pudding in my slow cooker back in early December.

First time I've tried making one in a slow cooker, and it came out great.

Got something to say?
