Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I first saw the "Ramp" or "Dilshan Scoop" played in 1981. Notts Evening League. A chap named Tony Turton intentionally hit the ball over his head for six. Twice. Against West Indian Cavaliers, in the days before helmets.

Chinese cut

see French Cut

French Cut (also Chinese Cut, Surrey Cut, or Harrow Drive)terms for any poorly executed shot which results in an inside edge which narrowly misses hitting the stumps.[19]* there is also variations if the cut huts the stumps or if from the inside edge, the ball goes between the batsmen's legs.

Bloody French!

Chinese cut regarded as accidental. Also called a Harrow Drive. An inside edge off a drive, often. Nat's is intentional

I have to say I disagree,, I am sure I remember, back in the day, Johnners and Boil etc talking about it being played intentionally.

Fairly sure also that a Chinese cut does not have to go through the legs, they can be driving at a wide one, getting a very fine inside edge that does not divert it sufficiently to go between the legs.

Interesting fact: Despite being utter shitfilth, Gary Balance is not vulnerable to the Chinese cut, since it's impossible to play when you stand square on just in front of the stumps.....

Talking of Balance and Helmets, who was the first person you saw wearing one, I'd say it was Gooch, but could have been Gatting.

I had an Evil Kneival Motorcycle Toy, ramp and all that. I used to try and get the thing to jump over our dog.
