Where is TRO with a moan about what Trent bridge will hold for us? Also, to tell us we are looking at a false dawn and its all going to come crashing down around our ears... |

Atonal Miserabilist (AFKA TRO)
We will probably eke out a series win against perhaps the worst South Africa side I can remember. This will enable the likes of Gary Ballance to cling onto his test place, ignoring the claims of better batsmen on the 'don't change a winning team' basis. Thus armed with a small and rather blunt knife we'll head off for a brutal gun fight in Australia, with Starc and Hazelwood likely to reduce our batting line up to a 'the scoreboard' esque rubble, especially at Perth. Ashes lost 4-0. We may scuffle a draw once the series is dead. |

During my playing days with Nuthall, we had a second team player who often used to play a cover drive off the inside edge, between his legs towards square leg. We called this a "Slagthorpe" after a totally fictitious Yorkshire batsman, Charlie Slagthorpe, who could drive Australia's fastest bowlers for six.

I dusted off my trusty "Tom Smith's Cricket Umpiring And Scoring" last night in the vain hope that it was somehow 'illegal'. It isn't.

Cheltenham yesterday for a spot of Gloucs-Worcs. Lovely ground and it seems that Joe Clarke can really play. (93* out of 155-4) Awful declaration by Gloucs though; gave neither side a sniff of winning. |

That's because Gloucs would have lost. It is excellent there, I used to sit over by the ladies college, there was usually a bar and an ice cream van. Off to Nottingham tonight, a few beers, well maybe more than a few, 10 of us are going, then I can look at this piss poor SA team for myself, and maybe have a beer. Perhaps more than one. |
