I once watched a pre season friendly between Notts and Leicestershire at Trent Bridge (long story - mid week, using up holiday entitlement and no mates off work to play with). Sat in the top tier of the newly opened Ratcliffe Road stand watching Chris Lewis bowl. Never mind bananas, he was swinging it so much it nearly came back to him like a boomerang! And at a fierce pace. I couldn't see how anyone could lay a bat on it. What a waste of talent that lad was.

You should make an effort to go to a county game, TRO. In a weird way you're lucky. There's something splendid about minor counties cricket.
Norfolk v Suffolk in mid-July? Got to be worth a cheeky day off.

No doubt Lewis was rubbing some of the old Colombian marching powder into the ball to make it swing....he was extravagantly talented though, one of those not only who could make the game effortless, but you also knew he would be exactly the same whatever sport he was playing.

C'mon Grep, I'm down with the yoof, a player of games etc. Isn;t county cricket where people go to die?

I once played a League match at Newark, on the same pitch that Notts 2nds had used in the week. Lewis had been playing, looking for form after injury. He had bowled 20 or so overs from the same end. The crater on the crease was so deep that I had to bowl round the wicket. Went off him after that.

Last time I went to an Essex 2nds game it was so cold I watched it from the back wall of the pavilion where I was huddled against a radiator.

Fucksticks.
Just read that Hameed is flying home from the Tour to have a plate inserted into broken finger.
Which brings the Duckett/Ballance debate back to the fore.....
I'd go Duckett. Ballance has been 100% proven to be not up to it, Duckett still in that grey region where he might...just might....be up to it...

Dammit, the kid was looking good; I hope he's not going to be an unlucky cricketer (already attracted unplayable balls and got a nasty injury...)
They'll surely have to go Duckett or we're playing a makeshift opener.
A *more* makeshift opener.
We really should fly out a new opener.

Don't get too excited about a replacement. They are talking Keaton Jennings or Nick Gubbins. I know, me neither.
