Yep. All things considered, not a bad lunchtime score to wake up to.

I'm not sure which is more surprising, the election result or England lasting a session in india without losing a wicket! Mind you having said that, we don't have a good recent record at batting in the final session of the day in the subcontinent conditions!

India's spinners bowl a lot of pies. Have they been watching us?

TMS is excellent. Rajkot is a new test ground, they have prepared a 5 day pitch. It won't be the same elsewhere.....I reckon we could be on the end of 3-1 or 2-1 still. But hey, I can lay my bets off now.

What do we make of Hameed's debut? I note that Bob Willis et al after the Bangladesh tests were criticising England's spinners for going for 3.5 runs an over. Ashwin went for 3.5 an over today.

TMS said he played well, Boycott gave him a cautious thumbs up.
Flattish pitch by all accounts, may turn later, too early to say what it all means. Gavaskar, again on TMS, reckoned Rajkot wanted a 5 day game, being a new test ground.
Mohali, Chennai and Mumbai will be different, much more spin friendly. Gavaskar reckoned 3-0 to India.

Hameed scored more in one innings than Ballance did in Bangladesh. Shows up the muddled thinking in selection.
Excellent first day; just hope Moeen doesn't mes it up with a first baller on day 2.
