7 tests, of which 3 are guaranteed to London, into 9 or 10 international grounds does not go.

Sounds very harsh on Durham. They did very well to win their last game (unlike Lancashire). Not having internationals won't help them either unless they were making a loss on them.

I can understand Lords getting a Test guaranteed but does the Oval? If so, surely that should change. Tests starting on a Wednesday can't help counties sell tickets either.

The Oval is a big ground, so they can sell lots of tickets (at London prices...) No idea why London is so important that it attracts at least 3 tests a year. Would be nice to see some of the action up here in the provinces! |

A London test will fill whoever is playing whenever it is in the year even May. It is rare the oval doesn't sell out even for Bangladesh. Then you see a northern venue like Durham at best a half full for a decent match like Sri Lanka or Pakistan. There was a match this year which went to the fifth day and nicely poised but hardly anyone turned up. Would have been at least half full at the oval

Durham were stuffed by the Sri Lanka 2nd Test being the week after the 1st Test at Headingly. I was thinking about not renewing my Durham membership for 2017, but after being shafted by the ECB I'll go ahead. Just hope over the Easter, May & August Bank Holidays there are games I can get too. |

I don't think it helped headingley either as I don't think that was particularly full. Hopefully the ecb will learn when planning test schedules but I doubt it

Plus the Sri Lanka game in Durham started on a Friday - so the fourth and fifth days were guaranteed lower attendances.

I feel really sorry for Durham. such a shoddy way to be treated. Otherwise, a day-night test. ecb.co.uk Handy, as I've already committed to the first two days... Gimmick or interesting new development? I guess we'll have to see if all the wickets fall in the last session... |
