Quite frankly, it seems to be the fact that they were obliged to bid for Tests (and then got the less popular games at the less popular times of year) which put them in the position they're in now. Turns out the ECB are idiots; who knew..?

I think the smaller test grounds over-reach themselves, it's like Cardiff, fine if you get an Ashes series, not so fine if you end up with Sri Lanka on a we May bank holiday....as you say. Are they obliged or shall we say 'forced'. I don't know the ins and outs of the bidding process... The new T20 comp will stuff them too, and others.
