Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Loved it Ted, especially using the ball bearing with back spin to get swing. Far better game than the Subbuteo attempt.
For those who haven't seen it, the ball was rolled down a ramp, the bat was a suspended metal weight with a piece of string attatched that you would pull back and then release to meet the ball. Fielders had s hole on the base between their legs that would catch the ball

I had that game as well. I remember bowling all day once and by brother made over 500. I has a good sulk afterwards!

I used to play a cricket game with a dice. Wrote out a score card then rolled the dice. The finer details are a bit hazy, but I seem to remember 5 being out.

I had quite a complex dice system worked out with a friend. Kept a proper scorebook too. Can anyone say 'nerd'! It did while away many a dull car journey though.

Then wrote it into a Basic program on the ZX80 which automated the process. NERD.

I once did a temp job doing an overnight stock count in a supermarket. We ended up playing cricket down one of the aisles at about 4am, using a long baguette as the bat and rolls as the balls.

A crusty roll nips off the seam quite nicely...

I used to play cricket in the back yard as a kid. Tennis balls were too bouncy and "compos" were banned because of all the broken windows. Me and my brother used to make our own balls by wrapping old socks around an elastic band core, then sewing the leather palm of a gardening glove over the top. We got pretty good at it, although the irregular seam (or seams) provided erratic movement

Doesn't need to.

Apparently the opposition got bowled out for 31 in reply.

I had a pretty basic cricket game on the spectrum where generally you lost one opener early doors, one stuck around for a while and made 70/80 and then after you got to 175 or so there was a mass collapse and you rarely made 200 and then lost the game. Despite knowing what would happen I still played it all the time
