After seeing Carey’s nick, my boy has asked why batters don’t just scream every time the ball goes past the bat.

Current forecast for tomorrow suggests no play after lunch. Day 5 currently a washout.

fetch - answers for the boy 1) you try screaming as you're trying to play a shot in milliseconds without disrupting your stroke. These are cricketers, not tennis grunters. 2) there's plenty of other nicks/noises (feet, bat against pads & straps, etc that are harmless) 3) the fielding side don't have the benefit of snick-o-meter. They're probably 5 - 20 yards (or metres) away 4) most cricketers would prefer to be thought of as honest. Most of the time. I suspect the chat with (aka sledging) a known 'cheat' would be fairly interesting. 5) the scream would probaby be too late !

You could start as the bowler began his or her run up.

I think a rhythmic chanting throughout each delivery would be the best tactic, something a bit like a Hakka. Obviously the New Zealanders would be best at this.
