Was there an 'Oh sh•t, we forgot Northants' moment?

'It's OK Somerset, you can get a boat'.

I thought that about Northants too. As if being relegated straight back to division two wasn’t bad enough.

57.5 rightly points out that Cardiff is not adjacent, or anywhere near, Somerset. I can't see anyone very much bothering to go from here. Cardiff is notoriously hard to get in and out of AND the stadium is always 3/4 empty... unlike Taunton which sells out and had 3 successful World Cup games which were praised universally from what I saw. Go figure.

...and as for those that travel from Devon and Cornwall to support Somerset. I guess it is only a short swim to Cardiff...

Spiritually it would have made more sense to lump Northants with Notts I’d have thought but hey. At this point I have no intention of watching The Hundred anyway.

I think planners in London like Cardiff because it is straight down the M4 and so it feels to them as if it is easy to get to. But you're right, OtG, Taunton is a fine venue.

Greppers, I'll be not-watching with you.

What I really don't understand about this concept is how it creates any fan base that really cares about or has a loyalty for a particular team. Will spectators be drawn to the team that has a home base in their region or that has a couple of players from their county? Or is it all about individual stars? I can't see that I will be remotely interested in the fortunes of the Cardiff-based team just because Somerset forms a component part of it in some way.

I just don't sense that there will be much partisanship and passion in all this. Am I missing something?
