Ah well. Smith plus the best bowling attack, you've got to say they deserve it.

I think the difference is Smith. In virtually every other area I think it is close.

Take away Steve Smith, their excellent bowling attack would have nothing to bowl at. Australia should be thanking God on a regular basis for having such a devastating batsman.

Yes, FR, but there have been so many swings in fortune throughout the series. Life in Test cricket? I think so.

Can't complain about the test or series so far. Australia have been the better side. Too many individuals haven't dug in or concentrated when it was needed and not enough moments of brilliance in contrast.

I agree Phil, they haven't had the mental toughness to concentrate during critical phases of the match *very tongue in cheek*

A big loss was always on the cards.
They hired a coach who was a white ball specialist 4 years ago with a brief to get better at those formats. Test cricket was on the back burner, an afterthought, assumed to take care of itself. Job done in the white ball game.
Question is do they carry on like that, or hire a coach with a brief and a set up to prioritise test cricket.
The irony is that 4 years ago we won the Ashes but were humiliated in the ODI WC with our ‘test’ players completely unable to grasp the modern white ball game. Now we’ve won the ODI WC, but have lost the Ashes with a bunch of white ball cricketers unable to play the red ball game.
Over to you ECB.....decision time.

I'm pissed off with Root, not a word of praise for the Aussies. Compare with Paine and how gracious he was at Headingly
