Williams stepped well into the lane on her inside when she was taking the baton. I don't think she gained anything by it though.

Fragile Do Not Bend
They just showed the replay and it looks pretty clear that both ladies went out of the lane at changeover.

Gutted for the girls, especially after the anxious wait after the photo finish. Extra medal for Scotland though!

I thought the photo finish looked more like a dead heat, hard to tell where to put the line for England but it looked a bit generous when it flashed up. All academic now but it’s shown here: twitter.com |

At grass roots relays you have track judges on the changeovers who wave a white flag (for good changeovers) and red flags (for dodgy changeovers). Old school, but you know right away that there was a problem and you wouldn't confirm a result until you'd spoken to the track judge about which team (or teams) messed up. So at least there wouldn't be any premature celebrations. I guess it's too low tech for a global event. However, technology is good but it's a bit unfortunate when you know the losing teams will trawl through the footage to see if they can find something can complain about. And if it's obvious to the casual spectator/TV viewer during the race, they should be holding off on confirming the results anyway. I am always worried about the changeovers in the swimming relays as well! Great for Scotland though! Delighted to see Beth Dobbin get a relay medal after the year she's had. |

People were bitching on Twitter about the result anyway and saying British officials were biased so I guess they were happy enough when the England team were DQd (even though it put another British team into the medals). Also moaning about the 800m Laura Muir hadn't won the bronze the night before. Actually I knew Twitter was a cesspit but was shocked at some of the comments. Lesson to self: don't look at trending or hashtags. |

I can't even find the photo finish picture on internet for Laura Muir 800m bronze. I thought one could find anything on internet! G

I mean, can't really suggest bias. Yes, most of the officials there will be English, but there is a team of international technical officials from across the commonwealth countries that oversee it. And I would assume, they are the ones making decisions about photo finishes.
