We have tickets for the athletics and the gymnastics. We want to be in the area for a week and after we will probably go further North for another week. Anything in Birmingham is a crazy price so we’d like rent a place on a direct train line in. Don’t mind it being about an hour, but we have no idea where would be a nice place to explore on the days we are not at the Games. Anyone more local have any suggestions for places to look? Thanks |

I'm unfortunately not the right side of the city to help out here in North Warwickshire. I would advise you to be careful if you choose a hotel near to the stadium. Mr Ness and I stayed in a hotel near prior to the start of the Birmingham half marathon a few years ago and to say it was a dump is an understatement! I found this information on a chat forum that might help..... "After looking at this I can advise that travel to Alexander Stadium from Park Inn Walsall is relatively easy using public transport. Firstly you would have to get a train from Bescot Stadium which is across the road from the Hotel to Perry Barr Train Station. From there the bus No 52A will take you to the Stadium (as advised by the Alexander Stadium Website), alternatively depending upon the weather it is a 20 minute walk from the train station. I have also enquired with our local taxi company who have advised that the cost for a taxi would be approx £12 each way and we are approximately 5 miles away from the stadium" The advice is about a year old but I would think the Park Inn or another hotel in Walsall might be more reasonably priced. |

Last wkend I got a hotel for the night before my events - pricing at £250, I got it for 20k Hilton points. It would be far cheaper to buy the points then pay the cash

Getting closer now. We booked a cottage in Stratford upon Avon so fingers crossed the trains are running. Anyone else going? |

I was lucky enough to be allocated tickets for the triathlon events in Sutton Park on the Friday via the West Midlands residents ballot. I'm not able to book the day off work because I'm interviewing people, so some Sutton Park parkrun friends will be going instead.

That’s a shame, Freshstart. I’m sure your parkrun friends will appreciate your kindness though.
