That first link of Wascally's is very sobering indeed. It brings home how people can so unwittingly come very close to killing themselves. Nobody wants to see anyone come to harm, we would all do well to take note and pay heed to this. I'm so glad nothing bad happened but it was far too close for comfort IMHO. I'm not criticising anyone here, I am just concerned. |

Contro, in answer to your question about throwing water over you: I do when it is hot and it really helps keep your core tempreature down! A few weeks ago we had a scorcher of a day when I was running a long fell race, not helped by a start time of 12 o'clock! And everytime we crossed a stream I dunked myself and my buff in it. Putting the wet buff on my head kept my head and the rest of me cool. Also, you have to keep drinkinig, however, make sure you replace salts as well, as over-hydrating is even more dangerous than under-hydrating! In NY a few years back it was hot (23-26 centigrade) and I threw cups of water over my head and back, keeping my hair, cap and top wet so it cooled my body. I also like to use a sponge with water to put on the inside on my wrists, neck and back of the kees, which is where the bloodvessels are running closest to the surface and you cool down more quickly. |

Hann I agree with the theory but for some reason I am not able to understand I have had at least 2 occasions where it hasn't worked... |

That is odd... maybe it just does not work for you and you are better off keeping the system cooled down by drinking only???
