I am doing the same Jenny. If feels like I am learning to run again so I thought that I might as well incorporate some of the CR techniques into it.

How is it going so far Andrew? I'm now doing parkrun and a few other runs per week and finding it hard not to go back to my old style.

Hey Jenny. It is really hard to unlearn bad habits isn't it?
I haven't really engaged with all the drills properly yet but when running I am really paying attention to my form, alignment and landing on mid/forefoot as much as possible.

I really like the C25K programme and think that it is a great way to re/start because it stops you from doing too much too soon. This is a struggle for me because I am finding the runs really quite easy; I can't wait to get onto the longer runs and shorter breaks.

I'm looking forward to doing Parkruns again because it is the sense of community that I love about running as much as the 'feelgood' factor that you get from the activity :)

I'm combining the Chi running with run-walking (usually 3:1 or 4:1), and find the frequent walk breaks are good for resetting my running style every few minutes. I'm mostly focusing on the forward-lean and let the legs catch up.

Also, the only running shoes I'm using at the moment have a 4mm heel-toe drop, which encourages midfoot/forefoot landing rather than heels. Anyone else looking at transitioning to flatter shoes?

I've already done that - 4mm drop and lovely soft soles. Merrell Arc - I love them.

Thanks for the tip, jennywren. Is there plenty of room in the toe area? I have some funny knobbly toes with some even knobblier toenails.

They're nice and wide in the toe box and narrowish in the instep. Foot shaped I'd say! They are called Merrell Bare Access Arc 5. There's a pair on Amazon for £45, depending on size.

Can't find any Arc 5s anywhere. There are some Arc 4s, but cost is considerably more.

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
Chi Running is a running technique which was developed by Danny Dreyer an ultra marathon runner who is a long time runner and student of T’ai Chi. The two main themes are energy efficiency and injury prevention. It combines the central movement principles of T’ai Chi with the sport of running to create a technique that shifts the workload toward your core muscles, allowing your leg muscles to work less. The results are increased efficiency and a significant reduction in injuries.
