Parkrun people want 5K? Is that how it is, I only got involved after it was set up down a Swindon, perhaps that side of things explains why it (the cost) was Swindon Council so heavily involved.

SouthendAl
To be fair to parkrun, in my experience (I'm just about to start Southend parkrun), the cost to the local event is £3000, which is match funded by parkrun HQ.
This is the lifetime cost of the event and includes all the necessary equipment, training, staff time, web pages etc. As far as I'm aware if a piece of vital equipment breaks then it gets replaced from this initial outlay too. Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong.
Don't forget that parkrun as a company is Ltd by Guarantee, therefore "not for profit", I'm pretty sure no one is making a mint out of it.
I can see where you're going with the independent thing joint ear, but feel you may be missing a trick in not trying to hook up with parkrun as a national entity, and all the support that entails. If the cash is that much of an issue, talk to them, they may have a solution or some suggestions as to who you could approach and how.
Good luck with it in whatever guise it takes.

I was at swindnos fourth park run, and a few other smaller ones I hope you keep it within the parkrun family joint ear
Im a marathon runner, and hate 5ks, but I LOVE the ethos of parkrun and hence have now done over 100 bcause of what it is, how it runs etc
The council has been heavily involved in my local one, Brueton, and we do things like collct money for trees to plant in the park We often have a council official come down to speak to us and it means we can carry on using the park fully supported
Cardiff parkrun (my initial home one) were recently told they might have to move by the council-------even though it was a long established and porpular parkrun So, yeah, get the council on board

My in laws live in Cheltenham. We pop up often and we would all love a park run in Pitville Park. Good parking, great cafe & toilets nearby.
Good luck !!!

I like this! I'm running outdoors fitness classes in Pittville with British Military Fitness and I think we really should have one of these runs in Pittville Park. The ethos behind Parkrun is just amazing so if there is any way I could helpjust give me a shout!

Nice one Lucian. I've seen your lot passing medicine balls and running in bibs ad I've jogged round the park thinking I've got it easy!
We'll be getting together soon to plot the finer details, still set for an October start, so if you and anyone else up for helping can pm me email addresses I will invite you along.

Would def be interested in running. I generally run alone or with my running partner and have never managed to join a club so a bit of camaraderie would be great. Please do post details if it's def going ahead and I'll be there!
