Mixing is a good idea! Maybe I try slowly introducing those wood pellets again.

Cat’s best is like gravel - not sandy. They do one which is like smooth pellets too, supposed to be less likely to end up everywhere, but it’s a bit more expensive I think. Here we have a plastic mat just outside the boxes which does quite a good job of catching any bits of litter stick to paws; I’ve not noticed it all over the flat.

Well although a good start with pellets he has gone in box and come back out numerous times without doing anything.
I have let him out first time as he tried to get out in garden and see if he leaves me any presents or if he will ever come back in.

Oreo is very much an outdoor cat, I’d be happy for him to use a tray to save my flower and veg beds being dug up but I don’t think I’d be able to make him understand what it’s for.

Think I posted about this litter before timeforpaws.co.uk
It's gravelly, quickly forms a solid block with pee so it's really easy to scoop out. A bag lasts about 2-3 months at a time (with one indoor cat). We use a covered litter tray with a carbon filter in the roof and a cat flap for privacy. We tip a whole bag in, which gives the cat grit for plenty of digging about in space :-)
Previously tried catsan, pellets (wood and paper) but they didn't work very well.
