In a blind test I'd struggle to tell the difference between the pair that's done over 300 miles, mostly in races, and a new pair. But I'm not hard on my shoes, other people have worn through the outsole with far fewer miles than that, and I think it's degradation/compression of the foam rather than attrition of the carbon plate that makes the magic wear off.

I was going to suggest on Farcebook that you ask your question here Soapy! You've got great answers in Fetch, as you'd expect! Def seem to be worth it. If I ever get back to running road events at any kind of near to my max pace, I'll be giving them a go! ![]() |

That’s what I’m thinking too. 😃G. Many years ago I had reached a point in my training where I thought it was worth buying a pair of proper race shoes and they made a difference to my race times. I think I’m at that point now in terms of buying carbon plate shoes. So I’ll get a pair of ASICS Metaspeed and see what happens.

Used them for a few races now. tbh I've not noticed a massive difference but might be distorted by the fact I'm getting older and my times are getting slower. Certainly in my speed sessions they seem to be faster, I'd say around 3-5 seconds a mile but has it translated into my racing ? I'm not sure. For anyone interested I run in these. The Artist by Atreyu. A carbon plated shoe for around just over £100. they have good reviews. atreyurunning.com |

Realistically I can’t hope for actually faster times than a few years ago. As I’m now an MV 60 that ship has sailed. But higher wava scores would be a good outcome.

I thought there would be a higher risk of injury (just the rebound energy has to go through your body, it doesn't just appear magically. And general change in biomechanics). But everyone assures me that isn't the case. I guess getting used to them gradually and other such sensibleness...? ![]() |

SPM - yep me too but as V50 Happy - I'd agree with that, I have to use them carefully or the achilles starts nagging. They feel wierd at first but id say use them sparingly. |

Yeah, not convinced, sorry. Where does it all end? But suppose you could have said that about NikeAir when they first came out. They had a tiny bit of rebound in them as well. But the argument that "everyone is doing it" doesn't really cut it, does it?Everyone in the professional peloton in the seventies and eighties was doping, and if you didn't you were at a disadvantage, even though you were doing the right thing. I know that's an extreme, but isn't that the same in some way. Anyway, I'll leave you to your technical discussions and take my reservations away with me. |

I'm with you Dave. They do feel like "mechanical doping" to me too.
