With grateful thanks to bigleggy for the seeds, I've started growing cacti and they have germinated. Some Fetchies are growing cacti from seed and others have established cacti plants at home. I've quickly become fascinated by this prickly pet so thought a thread to share tips and experiences would be helpful.

Sown on 21.2.22, a few have germinated

I'm not sure of the varieties but there are at least 2 different ones.

Two brown ones with v shaped tops in the first pot along with a green blob.
4 green dots in the 2nd pot.

Looking good, best of luck. I may attempt plant growing again once Finn is more sensible

I think I planted my seeds about 2 weeks after you.

If I squint and use imagination I think there might be a small green thing appearing but only one so far.

It's been tricky spotting them amongst the bits of grit and perlite in the compost but they are definitely there now.

Derby Tup
There used to be (and maybe still is) a cacti nursery near Matlock in Derby’s. I love them and have a few :-)

I've grown a few from seed over the year.

One in particular, I think it's a cereus peruvianis, is about 25 years old, has had to have its head chopped off a couple of times, and despite that is considerably taller than I am. Transporting it for house moves was a challenge....

I rooted a couple of sections taken off the top of it and they are also growing strongly in their own right.
