Must have been BBC1 and BBC2? My parents wanted to watch the unfunny scousers, but my elder brother had discovered Basil. Luckily, he won and we watched Fawlty Towers.

The David Jason thing was The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs, as above. The Office was appaling but spawned a lot of decent things. The greasy fat bloke leading it just made me feel sick, still does.
