The Golden Notebook is rather brilliant but very intense and hard-going. I need something a bit lighter for relief.

My library copy of The Passion has a notice on the front apologising for the condition of the book.

First 50 pages or so seemed ok; then came across some spots of something that look like tomato soup. McG, would you know anything about this?

On a train wishing I was reading something like BTOOT or TPoG, but I can't invest in another book yet given the height of my to-read pile

Know what you mean. I found a book I forgot to put on bookcase the other night it's like a follow on from Gone with the Wind. But seen from Rhett Butlers view. Written by someone else though.

I finished The Passion a few days ago, gave it 8/10 in Poll - will post my thoughts on discussion thread in due course...

My "Quest For The Classics" continues, with me about to start both Nabokov's "Lolita" and D.H.Lawrence's "The Rainbow"...

I was doing some housekeeping around Evernote just now and came across this "Provisional 'favourite books' list" which I created in September 2014.

Any idea what AFAG is?

- Aubrey/Maturin
- City Watch
- LotR
- Harry
- Not normal behaviour
- The secret history
- AFAG
- TPOG
- How I won the yellow jumper
- Travels in an old tongue
- A ride in the neon sun
- A life without limits
- Crime and punishment
- Red Storm Rising
