Sophie's World! I've not heard of that for years! I had a copy in the early 90s - I was 15 in 1990 and pretentiously, performatively interested in philosophy in my mid-teens, so I was the perfect target market...

LazyDaisy “a very earnest school friend” yes, that is the only sort of teenager I can imagine appreciating Sophie’s World. But did you actually enjoy it, Dooogs? |

Glad you’re enjoying it, Dio. What Zola series is that, GregP? |

I use Audible a lot, so I was troubled by this thread on Twitter. twitter.com (I hope that link works properly) I’d like to use Amazon a lot, lot less in general. That’s easier done with physical books and other items than audiobooks where Audible pretty much have a monopoly. I used to use my library app, but the range of books available was very limited. It would be great if there was an independent provider as an alternative. I wonder what it would take? |

I read Sophie's World. As I am an artogant so and so, I poopoo'd it as trying to be clever but never really hitting the mark. It will probably appear out of my boxes soon, if it does, I shall re-read it. I am putting lots of books on the: give away you will never read this again shelves, then take them.off and think: hmmmm... And start reading. I am annoying myself! I am NOT getting on! I STILL haven't built the additional book rack 🙄 |

- building more Ivars? I use one of the side units as a towel rail - there’s no room for one in my bathroom but it’s thin enough to fit in the gap between the sink and the wall!

Yup! More Ivars! Lower ones to fit under the sloping roof: 8x long shelves and 4x half shelves... Hopefully, that is enough. I just unpacked a box with my books on Buddhist art... Didn't make much progress 🙄 but it is so very very nice to have my friends back and have them accessible! Going to take a fair bit of time to get things organised by categories that make sense between the buildings though! I will be walking up and down between with books under my arm for months to come I think... |

Rougon-Macquart should keep you busy - think there's about 20 of those aren't there? I've read Germinal, and have La Debacle in my TBR, but no intention to complete the series :oO although more doable than Balzac's Comedie Humane, which I've read a few of but won't get to all 80-odd!! oh, and re Kurkov - I asked for (and got!) Grey Bees for crimbo, but not read it yet... |
