Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I identified very strongly with Viv, too, though not in such a literal way. I’m also a big Edward Thomas fan, and not too far away from a place associated with him. Mind you, Pete Paphides grew up in Birmingham but loved exactly the same music as me and I don’t think any memoir has inhabited my mind in the way the story of a Jewish woman from New York living and working in Hollywood in the Seventies has.

We connect.

So... I've started reading Lincoln In The Bardo.

I can see how this might go one of two ways - it could 'click' and be a super-duper read as many have found. Then again, it could very easily also be super-duper-irritating. It's almost like a series of dialogues and press-cuttings (most/many/some of which are fake I'm sure).

Has anyone else read it? Did you read every single one of the citations under each bit of dialogue or alleged newspaper quotation? It strikes me that this is an occasion for one of Columba's dramatis personae lists, though there might be too many speakers even for that.

I listened too it as an Audiobook. There were a range of narrators which helped. I liked it.

Sharkie liked it.

Bizarrely I also have it in my suitcase but not started it yet.

Finished Girl, Woman, Other last night. Really enjoyed it and would recommend.

Started Climbers. Reminds me a bit of This is Memorial Device.

So do they have different voice actors for the different bits? That would certainly help. At the minute is a bit over-fragmented to make much of a narrative.

Yep, a huge cast which really brings it alive. Just checked BB, and it’s available immediately.
