Question for this thread.

When ascending Kirk Fell from Black Sail Pass and you get to the two gullies. Should you choose the one directly ahead, or choose the one on the left.

I chose the one of the left and found it a bloody nightmare. In places the erosion is bad I think it might give way. I got to the top but the other way must be better?

FR the best gully to use is Red Gully which is the next one to the east of the one that is shown as having a public footpath down it on the OS map, that one is lethal! So coming from below you do want the one on the left. It is very obvious from the colour of the rocks if you've got the correct one.

Thanks FF. By the colour of the ground underfoot I must have chosen the 'easy' one. As it was definitely red. I'm just a pussy and not fell hardened. I thought it was testing.
