Since plain chocolate on any biscuit defies the laws of gastronomy, physics and possibly Brussels, shortbread has to win - even if it's in brick form and does sometimes smell just a little bit like cat sick:)

Proper shortbread isn't hard to get provided you accept the need to choose a decent brand rather than going for Asda Smartprice, and can be replicated very well at home since it only has three ingredients and the recipe is simple - mix into a dough, roll out, make into shapes, bake in oven. Whereas making anything resembling chocolate digestives is a proper raffle and they end up tasting mostly of bicarbonate of soda.
And even McVities doesn't exactly use premium dark chocolate. You wouldn't want to eat a bar of the brown covering they use. No, even *you* wouldn't.

For me it's pretty simple, shortbread just doesn't taste as nice. It's like eating a slab of sugared butter and turns into a sort of stodgy paste as you chew it. If I had a tray of biscuits and a cup of tea it would be my last choice, finishing even behind Morning Coffee and Party Rings.
