Saves knocking out a spike seat wearing Trail shoes. The mud that the Cheif reports is at the bottom (no sprise there!)of a big hill at about 3.75miles :)

I hate my spike shoes so am looking for an excuse to wreck them - strangely they keep surviving

I had a run around the route this morning.

Park - the grass is a bit long in places.

Woods - drier than normal in 1st third, the drop off the golf course has a narrower gap at the bottom than previous years and the gulley remains a hazard. The rest is fine. A big tractor has been along the footpaths making some sections soft but not muddy there is a racing line down the middle. Cardiac Hill is still flippin steep, a bit sticky at the bottom though. The tarmac sections are still tarmacy.

Trail shoe is prob best. I ran in it road shoes and had no problems so depends on how fast you want to be. I think the grip (or lack of) is noticeable on the grass sections in the park. There are appox 170 runners so course unlikely to churn up. It should be dry through weekend.

End of Report :-)

ps I accept no liability if this is crap - bring two pairs and get there early for a mile or three and choose.

How against the race rules is it to run on the tarmac path alongside some of the grass bit?

It XC - there are no rules!!!

You take whatever way around the course is best for you, provided you don't deviate too far from the course and take a short cut!!

Pushing, shoving and fighting for the best bit of ground is part of the fun!! No?

Excuse me, there are rules and 'job's worths' to enforce them :)

There is a slight change to this years route, the only section on tarmac is over the bridges.

Note to self for next year: No headphones.

Fair enough. All races have rules. Can't there be no headphones this year too?

Chief dragged me round some of the course this morning. My legs weren't very cooperative up the hills :-( It's a bit more slippy than yesterday apparently, parts had had a good going over by a tractor and there was a kids' cross country about to start. I wouldn't wear road shoes unless you fancy sliding the course.

Anyway, are we going to have a bet on who falls over? extra points for faceplanting :-)
