I had my ablation yesterday - it's amazing how they got that tube from my groin up to my heart, froze a tiny balloon and hopefully froze a crappy bit of the heart off.

I'm pretty sore today but had a good snooze for a few hours and my chest is a lot less tight now.

I'll be going back in, in 3 months, for a review and to see if it's been successful. :-)

PS heartrate was around 50 so still pretty low.

good news.

take it easy for a couple of weeks, and don't be surprised if you have a couple of episodes in the coming weeks/months - it takes a while to settle down, so be patient

Cheers chaps, am going to be on the medication for another 3 months so it'll be when I come off that, that I'll find out if it's worked or not. :-)

what meds are you on Sombrero (presumably something like Warfarin and a beta blocker? Any anti-arrythmics?).

I dropped the arrhythmic first (after 3 months), then the beta blocker at 6 months and the warfarin at 12 months.

Warfarin and amiodarone for me. The amiodarone is really good at keeping my heartbeat regular.

I was using flacainide which was great at controlling/preventing the episodes for about 7 years.

Hi guys, good to see you are all doing well. Thought I'd dip back in.
Arm on the mend now yippee!! - I'm just out of plaster, doing some serious stretching, I have a good chance of reasonable mobility given what happened to me.

Ablation booked in for next week. RHR currently sitting in the mid '50s (no regular exercise for months now though, I'm more or less starting from scratch) When I was regular training HR was regularly in the 42-48 region.

Cardio Version from back in May still holding, I don't have an irregular HB though I do get the odd 5 sec episode when I think 'oh-oh' ...but then it goes back to normal. To be fair though I haven't put my heart under any real stress. Oh, no sorry! How amiss of me. Forgot my arm trauma. (just goes to show, think about what you are writing) When I came off my bike my first thought wasnt my arm, lying in tatters below me, it was 'is my heart still beating normally!' amazing how your mind works. Since then, Ive had a few stressful situations in hospital re my arm but as I said before, everything else is still holding up fine.
I'm not on any drugs other than the Warfarin, which is good so far,
From reading all sorts of info on this, my plan is to have an easy couple of weeks and then look at gently easing myself into exercise. It won't be too hard for me, in recent months I've learned the virtue of patience, oh yes and how to write left handed :)

Your hand writing is very neat Alanj, I had no problems reading your post :-P

Hope ablation goes well. I don't think I was prepared for how rough I would feel in the few days after and I'm just starting to notice the bruising going down where they went in the groin. I've been off work a week now, will be back Monday.

Post ablation report:
I had it done 3+ weeks ago now. it all seemed to go well, I had bruising in the groin area which did develop into a small lump but never got any bigger. Phew!
Everything seems to be ok apart from I get what I call 'super beats' every so often, which last for about 3 or 4 seconds then everything goes back to normal. I don't seem to lose the regular rhythm. I guess this may be either things settling down or it may mean that in the long term they need another go at me. Anyway, it's not bothering me unduly. I now have a RHR in the high 50's/low 60's.
I went 'running' last week for a couple of short sessions. I should really describe it as 'not walking' :) The thing that struck me was how unfit I had become in the months that have passed. My breathing was very laboured, it made my chest and throat sore, I'm an asthmatic so I guess my asthma will have advanced a bit during the time I couldnt exercise, and Im hoping this feeling will go away the more & more I am able to do.

Anyway, all is generally good. I'm up to jogging 5km now and I think I'll stick at that for a while and see if I can improve my time over the distance. I'll post more as things develop and hopefully improve.
