Had ablation yesterday by Dr Chow in Reading. Little problem at the start as I was in atrial fibrillation when the procedure was planned to address atrial flutter. I was duely sedated and had a cardioversion before the flutter ablation was completed. I seem to be in sinus rhyythmn and have come off betablockers. If I still had a problem I would have expected to have gone back into AF already, Looks promising

Two days after ablation, and no problems. Wearing heart rate monitor and everything looks fine. Did a very easy session on my turbo trainer at up to 100 bpm at the end of 10 mins. No problems and heartrate dropped back to 60 ish after a few mins. Certainly something has improved as two days off betablockers would have seen my heartrate going crazy if I had stopped taking them before the ablation.

Hi macca. I was advised by Dr Chow to take it easy for the first week, and back to full training by the end of the second. The caution is more about allowing the groin to heal, rather than overstressing the heart. I'm increasing my effort each day on my turbo trainer. Did up to 110 bpm today, and will add 5 bpm each day, and an extra mile of distance. Recovered back to 68 after 60 secs when I finished the effort. Resting heart rate this morning was 40 so looks like I have managed to keep a lot of fitness during the last two years of living with AF.

good news indeed.
and to echo what macca said - take it easy. also don't be too dis-heartened if you have the occasional setback in the first few months - it is to be expected. but it sounds like everything has gone well, so pleased for you

Hi everyone, nearly two months after the ablation and only one 5 min burst of irregular activity. Ive managed to push my max hr up to 166 and 167 in a club 2 1/2 mile race last thursday and parkrun on staurday. So for the moment it looks like the ablation has been a success.

Oo..that's good. I;m seeing the surgeon in a copuple of weeks for double check that ablation is the way to go. I have not run for 4 weeks due to other injuries, other than 1 mile on th etreadmill on Monday. When I pushed it at the end I could feel a little flutter - though if I have to stop running I won't miss it too much.

excellent news
I have my 6 month checkup on Oct 7 and *touches every piece of wood in sight* I think my symptoms have gone completely I'll be asking my cardiologist if I'm *cured* or if the firebreaks they have carved into my heart will wear out over time or become less effective.
