good progress Alan - don't underestimate the surgery you've had - it will take time and plenty of it to get back to anywhere near your previous level.

Just enjoy being able to get about in normal rhythm :):):)

Hi all...so 3 years after I started the thread, I am due for ablation on Oct 5th. I'm still not sure you know, though for the first time yesterday, after about 50 ECGs inthat time I actually had AF while it was being done (excluding times I was in hosp due to it). and it lasted many hours which is a bit unusual. I've also noticed that you know that "feel sl faint when you stand up" thing, has got worse lately. Howeevr, I'm also thinking the timing is good as winter approaches.

Good luck on Oct 5. If there's a silver lining in having an episode while under ECG at least it will give them a good understanding of you heart.

Hello Alan. Isn't know you were on this thread as well. My AF hasn't changed much. Last check up February 2015 showed meds were working ok. Still trying to achieve 10 min miles. Slowed down from 7 to 8 min miling. Is anyone ever cured of AF?

I think it's always there even if you'd had an ablation

Ablation done yesterday without incident in 3 hours. I'm home now and feeling fine. I think somethings happened as I was lying awake at 3pm last night and my heart rate was about 56 (so faster then it would normally be) but at least it was regular! Will keep you posted.

Great news - rest and recover well:)

My heart rate has now stabilised in the mid to high 50s after being sub 50 for many years and sub 40 on beta blockers :-0

Nearly 6 months post ablation and HR now stable around low 60s. It was upper 40s prior to the Afib taking charge. I'm getting the odd flutter but nothing seems to stick, I also get the odd 'big beat' but again I'm not too bad. Now working on my running again and currently managing 9 m/m but a bit scared to push it, I think that this has to come gradually, as along with the Afib there is about 8-12 months of an enforced sedentary lifestyle to cope with. And of course, my age. But I'm definitely improving. I have an enforced rest for 5 days this week as I have to wear a 5-day monitor on the instruction of my consultant to check my progress. 'Just do your normal things' they said. 'So I can run and cycle?' 'Er, no. Just your normal day.' 'But this IS my normal day!' They have a little lack of understanding because I don't fit the normal patient profile, it seems.

Alan that's a strange response - when I had a 5 day test they told me to try and break the monitor! Run as fast and as hard as you can what the advice my cardio team gave me (to see if strenuous execise could induce an afib episode). It didn't for me :).

My team didn't want me to give up anything and encouraged me to run within a few weeks of the ablation.
