Burgle Bros is great. The first time we played it I mis-read the rules in set up and we played with no staircases - so we never made it off the ground floor.

Spent new year playing games with friends, a really long game of Catan (won't someone just win now please 😂) and Codenames. Codenames is a great way to find out your husband doesn't get any of your weird word associations but your 13 yr old son does 😂

That made me chuckle Mister Tea, it's the sort of thing I would do! I would like to play it again quite soon because I feel I would enjoy it more now I see what it's all about. I found it a bit baffling to start with. I'm taking a book round to the friends who brought it yesterday, may ask to borrow it for a wee while.

Other friends have Pandemic and also say it's good fun, I would like to play it sometime.

Mikuro I often feel like that during Catan, and I've never won a game yet!

Mikuro, love your comments about Codenames, I found it interesting to see how our two sons thought of "clues". Dixit also produces the same response in our house.

Your comment on Catan also resonates, it is also a reason that King of Tokyo doesn't get to our table as often as it should. The elimination of players and the opportunity for prolonging the end game sucks some of the fun out of chucking a lot of dice on the table.

Also I've finally succumbed to writing a blog post about my game playing following Synge's insightful views on why everyone should stop playing Monopoly. Going forward I'm hoping it will cause me to make better decisions about my game collection and get me to focus on what I want to get out of games rather than focus on the hype around new releases and FOMO. With circa 10-20 new games each week being released on crowdfunding sites, it is impossible for mere mortals to have them all, cost and playtime, but they are all so shiny. I frequently have regrets about not getting some games but I know that I don't have the resources or gaming mates to play them, even if they are great.

Our favourite game is Potion Explosion, it's got a great theme and design and is really easy for non gamers to pick up. If you can get hold of a copy definitely do!

I have a fair few games I've never got to play as you need a solid few hours and more than 2 people, hoping to rectify this this year as we've just sourced another gaming couple who are well up for game nights! We played Firefly at theirs and now that's added to my list haha

Mrs Shanksi - the good thing about Burgle Bros is that it comes in a small box - you could easily slip it into a bag unnoticed. I really like Pandemic too.

JamieKai chameleon I've done this in the past, but not for a while. I agree with you though in saying that it's great fun and I'm making a mental note to do so again in the near future.

I didn't get any gaming done with my family over Christmas (well, my sons newly acquired Snakes and Ladders!), but did manage a good chunk in the build up getting games of Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, Marvel Champions, Warhammer: Underworlds, Kill Team, Azul, and Root so my appetite was sated!

I was also lucky enough to acquire expansion packs for Marvel Champions in the form of the Quicksilver and Ant-Man hero packs as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy campaign expansion.
