I'll let you know how we get on. I don't think we've played basic Catan since we've played with the Seafarers expansion, it's much better imo. I especially like the Fog Island game as I like turning over the pieces as I travel to them.

Ah, I miss playing Catan. Tried teaching it to my gaming group a couple of times, but they've not really taken it to heart. Luckily Azul hit the spot. Hate Carcassonne. Given it a few chances but it just leaves me cold. |

I do like I&C - even if you just play the extra pieces and not the extra rules.

For those that have a BoardGameGeek (BGG) account and therefore have a list of games, you can use the following to rank them rankingengine.pubmeeple.com And tbh it does a fairly decent job, I only moved a few around, and I could do a little more but broadly it's right. So I ranked 64 games and expansions. I have played more but have not recorded it on BGG (Yahtzee, Sorry, Operation, Mouse Trap, Ghost House to name a few) A top 10 games list (including expansions) for me is Flamme Rouge Raiders of the North Sea Pandemic Aeronautica Imperialis: Wings of Vengeance Fire Tower Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 5 United Kingdom & Pennsylvania (need TtR base game) Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 7 Japan & Italy (need TtR base game) Spirit Island (needs Branch and Claw expansion) B-17 Flying Fortress Leader Codenames I'm interested if any of these are going to appear on Synge's most excellent blog series. And my top 10 stinkers (remember these are games, I've recorded as owning and playing on BGG) Starship Troopers Escape from Colditz Forbidden Island Monopoly Super Cluedo Challenge Cluedo Monopoly: Spongebob Squarepants Galaxy Trucker Trivial Pursuit: Family Edition 5 Second Rule Interesting how Forbidden Island which was Matt Leacock forerunner for Pandemic I rate so lowly compared to the same mechanic which I rate so highly with Pandemic. Some notable omissions from my BGG account are Catan and Carcasonne which I really ought to include as they form part of my gaming past. Also excludes games that I am expecting at Christmas (Dungeon Petz, Architects of the West kingdom) and games I am waiting to be fulfilled from crowdfunding (Foundations of Rome, Oros, Overstocked and Too Many Bones). I am waiting the Kickstarter (early Jan) for Final Girl a game that is available in the USA but the current USA-UK shipping makes it too expensive but the KS with local fulfillment may make it cheaper, fingers crossed. Have fun, keep gaming. |

A while back i posted a link about how much games cost. Here is a recent blog post on BGG about lessons learnt from a self publisher. boardgamegeek.com It's a quick guide not in depth but an intersting short read. |

you can use the following to rank them Thanks, ftr. I started this on my phone, but it told me I had to compare something like 900 pairs of games, so I saved it for later! |

Synge, you might have too many games!! I had to do c300. Alex Radford did his by game mechanic to reduce the number of pairs you have to rank. Then you can look at those lists to relatively rank mechanics Have fun, |

It's played in the dark with a candle to light it and create shadows. The little dwarves hide in the shadows and have to meet up. They can only move through Shadow and have to work together to get together, while the light minster searches for them
