* delayed waves back to Mrs_S

And to SooWoo too!

Not sure I can justify another buff since I have about two dozen already. I'm able to colour-coordinate pretty well as it is.

Hi SooWoo!

_andy I'm the same, but I felt I've already saved a fortune in not travelling to races this year so £12 for a buff was justified as a souvenir.

I was wondering about having a rest day today. Anyone doing that? I probably won't though because my habit of 3 miles with my son is quite engrained now.

Mrs S, I've not only saved money but due to Premier Inn having a great policy on refunds I'm actually better off.

I did run, much faster than planned. But it was only just over 3.5 miles. Maybe some S&C this evening.

Lol mrs s. I think you should fully justify:
* carb loading
* watching DVDs all day in bed, staying off feet
* reviewing your route and pace plans
* endlessly packing and repacking all your boxes and bags

And in my case, trying not to talk to anyone about any of it in case I am sick or burst into tears with worry! :-) G

I was same as you mrs s, that I reckon saved so much on races by not doing / travelling / accommodation etc. that we can splurge out on bling that is available for these remaining (virtual) races. :-) G

at the end of the day
Rest day for me today as well, no running,i,m thinking of cramming my 36 miles of first leg into 3 days instead of 4 ,to give me a chance of a rest day before Leg 2..i,m not working so it gives me the chance to do this..realise its not suitable for everyone..

Fenners - we're lucky to be better off as well as I'm not driving in to town & back for work and we're not spending money on cafés /restaurants etc.

HappyG - lol I've been taking it far too easy and carb-loading with no excuse all lockdown! I really need this challenge to hopefully shift some pounds. The hall is clearer though. As you say I remember the frantic box packing, shanksi with his clip board to hand. And yet we'd still be wandering round Milngavie tesco at 9pm before the race buying some last minute snack and bumping in to other runners.

Enjoy your runs, at the end of the day, let us know how it goes. I thought about doing longer runs so I could have a rest day but then I honestly thought I couldn't be bothered to do a much longer run on any day.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
