Just picked up a bag of Whisky Barrel aged Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Collaboration between Darkwoods Coffee & Magic Rock Brewing. Could be interesting....

Sharkie - aeropress is a fast brew method so the grind needs to be quite fine ~ much closer to (possibly finer than) espresso than cafetiere. Personal taste/palate rules over how any expert insists it should be done

Thanks Decorum - I will fine up some of the cafetiere ground coffee I have with a had grinder (need to buy one don't I?) and see what happens... could be sludge!

FWIW I'd stick with the coarser grind & slower brew time. Aeropress will cope with lots of different brew approaches and is good for experimenting with though.

I've just fined-up some grounds in my budget basement Nutriblend. Reckon it worked on nuts and seeds so should cope with coffee. Bit industrial but worth a go! Now to avoid throwing coffee all over the floor which is what I did yesterday in a dozy senior moment. |

Dualit grinder here Sharkie, love it. I’ve got a Gaggia I think in my other house and it suffers terribly from static when grinding finely, drives me nuts. Love freshly ground beans though

I tell a lie, the annoying one is a Krupp. Looking at prices though it’s half the cost of the Dualit one and the end result (other than the static) is just as good.

You can double up on the paper filters to slow down the flow a little. And also pre warm the cup with hot water to help avoid the luke warm effect.

My Krupps is fine. It's in storage at the mo' tho'. I'm a nomad but not really enjoying having no roots. Ah well, at least I've got my easy to transport Aeropress.

I always pre warm cups anyway. Test run cappuccino was quite good. I like what I call 'proper' cappuccino: strong coffee plus mainly mixed in foam rather than half a jug of milk which is what seems to happen in the chains. Have just looked at grinders ...might stretch to this one from JL. johnlewis.com |
