If not too much the Castelli perfetto jersey is

more expensive but a very good option as it's wind proof. dh has I've and wears all winter with just a base layer

He also recommends Sportful and Le Col which are a little bit cheaper, but still very good. Le Col often has last year's gear on offer.

I am here, sorry been awol.

Each to their own on choice - I like abd wear DHB, and find they keep the wind out too. Wear a base layer under. That saying I have not worn a more expensive one so can't comment.

Just make sure it is breathable or you will sweat and get cold

I am looking for something that will do for short work/about town commutes when it is cold and dark but looks good and is comfortable on longer trips. I don't bike sub-zero but 3-4C is not unusual.

The first one I linked looks warmer (and I like the look) and it is a good brand; but the DHB is perhaps more practical but less warm wo would need more layers.

I'll check out Teebee's suggestions.

I don't really bike in the rain so fleecy is probably more important than waterproof.

Absolutely nothing to add re cycling gear. Just dropping in to report 3.25 miles this evening with the running club's "old, injured or just plain slow" group.

Velovixen jackets do look lovely: warm and reflecty. But I might wait for a sale 😉. Fit is top heavy" which might not be great for me. But also good point about sizing up if wearing layers underneath (or using it to go to work over normal clothes).
