Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hello! Can I join? I’ve just updated my target for the year from 500 to 700 as I’m at 516 and this way there is less risk of my sitting on my bum and basking in my success.

This is the first year since 2012 that I’ve done more than around 300 miles so I’m pleased.

ITG I live about 100 miles from Toronto, having moved from Scotland 8 years ago to be nearer my ageing parents.

Welcome Hibeedeb, make yourself at home
700 miles is neither necessary nor sufficient but a state of mind ;)

Well done on lots of miles already bunting

Don't worry about keeping up with the chat, especially with the time distance, just hop in and out as you please :)

Welcome, Hibeedeb, and everything NSC said :)

We're a talkative bunch - some retirees but mostly just skivers.

I loved Toronto and lived at the Beaches and then at Greektown for a bit. Fantastic city! But I was ready to move back to a small town at the end of it. Cities are best left to the young'uns. My OH studied at Guelph so I spent a year living there after we got married. Bit less exciting (she says politely).

Thanks for the welcomes.

ITG - I love Toronto too, but no way would I want to live there. Far too big and too many cars and I’m not a fan of 14 lane highways 😬

I’ve never been to Guelph but I’m sure it’s less exciting than Toronto. We live in Peterboeough. Small town but very pretty with lots of trails, a river and a canal.

I like 700 being a state of mind, but for me a target is good. I’ve only run more this year because I set the target, and then did run the sum to see if I could.

Welcome, Hibeedeb :) Support levels here are consistently high.

Yes, ITG, you're right about offering experiences as 'real world' examples for students anxious about interviews or assessments. Having the insight to know the post wasn't 'right' for you is almost always valuable. :)

Hello and welcome Hibeedeb! I agree, a target works for me too because otherwise there would be too many times when I'd just go - nah, cba.

*waves to Hibeedeb* let me know if you have any target races you want a cheer for. I don’t want to make it sound like we lack discernment but we’ll basically cheer on demand :-)

Welcome Hib! Quite a few old fogeys in here as well as some young whippersnappers. :)

I went to club at lunch time. This week it was a pace judgement run - no watches, 2 laps of the route as close in time as you can get to each other. The run is 3.2 miles altogether. I started my Garmin and put it in my pouch (if it's not Garmined it's not run, right?). I decided that I wanted to try to run all of it without walking. I actually managed this, first time since I don't know when - if ever! I was told that my second lap was 3 seconds quicker than my first lap. This all goes into the club's handicap system. A flat route helped and I'm so happy with that. :)
