Fierce and Focused Fleecy
So true Latterly

100% powered by fleecy legs, Columba. I would have run but that would have been too sweaty. I scooted back via Waitrose to do a total of 6 miles which is quite a lot on a scooter. It’s all flat though.

What should I be doing for a tempo run?

LG - there are a few definitions:

1. Comfortably hard. A pace that’s faster than “moderate” but not exactly “hard.” If you have a high training age and prefer running by feel or perceived effort, this may be the most helpful definition for you.

2. The pace you could race for an hour. For some runners, their tempo pace is similar to or about the same as their 10k pace.

3. 85-90% of maximum heart rate. If you train by heart rate (learn how to calculate your max heart rate here), this is a valuable way to ensure you’re in the right range for your tempo run.

That's much more helpful than anything I would have said, which would have been along the lines of... as hard as you can for the time you have. :)

ION, I have run ten miles. It was hard. It was definitely NOT a tempo run.

Well done Linds.

LG - I'd say somewhere between 10K and half marathon pace. It's different to a threshold run (apparently).

Is it? Well I never. I like all those definitions I didn’t know that I didn’t know what a tempo run was. I thought about it in piano terms - con brio, with vigour :-)

I think TeeBee's definition is closer to allegro ma non troppo.

I didn’t know there was a difference either. I always thought tempo was fast enough to feel a bit sick if you kept it going for too many miles.

About This Thread

Welcome to the 700 miles in 2018 thread, everybody welcome :-)

The thread motto is:

'700 miles is neither necessary nor sufficient'

All you have to do is run about 1.91 miles per day or 13.46 miles per week or 58.33 miles per month and take a picture when you get to 700 miles of either you or the spot you reached the target or both if you want to. And if you go under or over 700 miles nobody will mind.

Join in the chat on the friendliest thread around - all things discussed and sometimes even some running is talked about.

Next year's spreadsheet can be found here - let's fill it up
