As a young teen I had been out one night. My gran for what ever reason had picked me up and taken me home. On walking in through the back gate there was a koi carp on the patio, sat there gulping for fresh water. No claw marks on it or obvious talon marks. Put it in a bucket of water and rehomed it at a friends pond the next day.
Still no idea whether a cat or bird had it away. But my mum's place is in the middle of nowhere with very few neighbours so it only added to the mystery.

Heron Andy?
ITG, I've always said I would want to live in Italy, but suspect that the bureaucracy would drive me round the bend. Spain was bad, but I can imagine Italy is even worse.

France had odd bureaucratic tendencies. They wanted evidence in writing of my mother's maiden name (for my carte de sejour) so I had to get my parents' wedding certificate. I seem to remember they were very hot on women's maiden names.

My friends got married in Paris, she is French and he is English and the bureaucracy was quite impressive. I think Italy is worse, more of a full time occupation there.

Glorious day here for a run. 6 miles in the sunshine along the beach for me today.

Yes, that's another reason we had a small wedding in London and a big party near Carcassonne instead of doing the whole thing there.
