You could follow the 3.30 bus and then outsprint the buggers along the front :)

I hope for something closer to 3.15. I always fail though, usually through some disaster in the last six miles, though if you look at my splits last year, the wheels were coming off from 16 onwards.
This is why I intend a 'proper' taper and no shenanigans at the Wilmslow half. I will get my half peeb somewhere else.

OK, seems like most people are thinking along similar lines - i.e. don't race it!

Gobi - thanks, as ever you make great sense! Unlike other certain thread starters, I know when to take good advice!

It was a bus at Hull I was thinking about. I might need someone to stop me going postal again. Bloody club chairman challenged me to a race last year, so I kicked his arse but it killed my marathon.

Do the Leeds Half instead Johnny - 3 weeks after Brighton - you should be in top form. And I actually think it's a decent course for a PB, because you can forget the hills and push hard in the 1st half, since you know the 2nd half is downhill/flat.

The problem with the Leeds half is the desire to just go home once you get to about halfway. For me, anyway :-)

You want a PB in the half? Run Scunthorpe?

DeeGee - the problem with that is that it's in Scunthorpe.

Phew! Seems the Bramley 20 I ran at the weekend is much in line with Gobi's advice. My best is yet to come :-)

That's great advice again from the dark lord, I was planning a 3/1 run 15 Steady, 5 at MP but will trry and emulate Gobi's plan and do the cool down mile too.

Fozzy, could you stick Gobi's advice in the header so we can all get at it later

Ah, I could do that at Hull. But I will try to stick to those above i think. Should be about 8.15 over the length.

I am out of the Leeds half this year (small cheer). I am Fred Whittoning (small poop).

Scunthorpe is on my list. I went a bit mental trying to get sub 90 last year, but I never rested and finally got it at the end of a 60 mile week.
I hope to be a bit less mental this year.

About This Thread

Maintained by rf_fozzy
I'm interested in what people think about them - do you do them? How do you run them

Advice from Gobi:

5 miles @ MP + 60-90( time to get loose so start close to 90 and work down)
5 miles @ MP + 45-60
5 miles @ MP + 30-45
4 miles @ MP
1 mile however you like
1 mile cool down

The 1 mile cool down came into force as I discovered coaching nobody wants to back off at 19miles and look like they have blown up so we invented the go race the last mile and then do a cool down rule
