Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Yellow Fang It was a fairly different route than last time I ran it, with a lot more roads. There was still a fair amount of mud and hills. I think I preferred the old route, to be honest, although it was still very challenging. I did appreciate not having to run up that incline into town at the old finish though. I kept up a fairly steady pace. I tried keeping up with a clubmate but he's a better descender and I lost him (until the last mile, hee hee). I was a bit frustrated by the queues at the stiles, where I kept losing time I'd made up, but that's the nature of trail races, I suppose. I made a mistake climbing over a farm gate, which lost me about a minute. A stone got stuck under my sole in my flyrocs, but I tried not to think about it. The weather wasn't too cold, except when the rain started lashing down and I was worried I hadn't worn enough. I finished quite strongly, making up some places in the last few miles. I was a bit surprised not to have run faster because I was only a minute quicker than on the old course.
This is a good event, with some good touches like having someone to untie your laces at the end when your fingers are frozen (not too bad this year). The water jet they used to clean your legs stung though. I imagine that's what being tattooed feels like. There were jelly babies and chunks of mars bars at water stations to keep you going as well as biscuits, drinks, soup and bread at the end. I didn't even think the t-shirt was all that bad. I recommend staying at the Wetherdown Hostel, if you have a long way to come or don't have personal transport.
