Yog-Sothoth Gotta crack that 3:15! Sorry to all the PB Betters who wasted their credits on this 'ol nag. The weather didn't co-operate (strong headwinds and crosswinds), and I blew up badly on the second lap and set a personal worst for Marathon Distance. I feel like a good cry, to be honest with you...

Shades Very bad run for me at the Duchy, pain in my achilles from 3 miles which got worse and worse, I should have dropped out a halfway but I didn't. Discussed dropping out with the marshalls at 20 miles but decided to walk on for a while, walked nearly all of the last 10k, finished 5.09.40 and can hardly walk at all now. I've never had an achilles problem before and although the worse pain is in my achilles, I think it's my foot that is the problem. Yesterday I had to jump out of the car quickly to stop the gate at work banging into my car and I landed on the side of my foot. I felt it as a sharp pain but then forgot about it. If I massage my achilles now that doesn't hurt and I think if it was achilles damage it would be tender to touch. I have some swelling, a little on the achilles but mostly below my ankle bone and on the side of my foot.

Nice pasty though and I still won a prize, amazingly, 3rd V50!

paskha I really didn’t feel right during this – I know how much a severe headwind can deplete you – but it wasn’t just that … I had woken just after 5am with my heart racing – didn’t consider for one moment that my base HR was up & I might be unwell, this was one marathon I HAD to do!!! It was a day of contrasts, from feeling too cold (despite thick HIND top & brilliant sunshine) along the North coast road & then sweating profusely & getting too hot as I speeded up along the inland stretch, with a tailwind. It’s possible I didn’t drink enough & I had an unpleasant emergency pit-stop (& couldn’t BELIEVE I had failed to put the tea-tree cleansing wipes in my bumbag, oh, I was sore!) – later on the North coast road again for the second lap (miles 17-20) I got intermittent jabs in my right hip / top of leg, which pulled me up a few times … I walked LOADS & resorted to a THIRD ibuprofen … then I was distracted & completely forgot to pick up my banana at mile 21! When I did remember I also realised I had removed all the loose change –aarrrgh – but found a solitary 50p YAY!!!!! I was able to buy a banana in the SPAR shop at mile 24 … I then had the “running for home” experience … I felt BETTER … I could RUN! … I saw Tineke in the distance (we had run together & passed each other a few times already) and gradually caught up … I was motoring … we were so close to the finish, I stayed with her and we crossed the line together – LOVELY!!!!! Tinebeest's 1st marathon, my 34th! (& 10th Duchy in a row - I did it!!!) It was great to see PH & SHades as I haven't seen either for a LONG time - and special THANKS to CLAIRE who took me to the Penventon & gave me the most excellent big tub of fresh fruit salad for apres race - I could feel it replenishing me, like a dried up sponge soaking up water, it was amazing, I'm sure it kicked started my flagging immune system!!! thanks also to Christine (WRN) who gave me a lift to the station (I reckon I would have missed the train - next one was 2 hr wait!) & gave me a yummy yogurt coated fruit & nut bar ... ofcourse I ate my pasty - much later at home - & it was a proper one :-)
