Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Adders It just wont stop. It feels like it will never stop. The racing curse continues as I fail to even run a PB, never mind sub 37. It has been 2 years since I have a run a road race where I have attained my target. The wait goes on.. and on... and on.

It was a warm day, but Im not going to make excuses for the weather. What I found offputting was that there were no kilometre markers for the first half so that didnt help my pacing. There were mile markers though. I learnt from what happened at St Davids Day 10k and attempted to start off at a steady yet decent pace that felt around 6:00/mile (definitely did not feel too fast). First mile split: 5:38. What??? No sense whatsoever. Second mile I steadied myself slightly, but no way in a million years did it feel as slow as the 6:19 displayed on my watch. The same can be said for the 6:20 third mile. This left me incredibly bewildered, a feeling Ive experienced far too often in the past. At half way, I was just under 19 minutes, which I figured was on pace for my St Davids Day time. I knew I'd have to run a highly impressive negative split to obtain my 37 minute target. But it wasnt to be. The latter kilometres seemed slow without knowing my exact splits. A fast finishing kilometre of 3:26 was not nearly enough to break 38 minutes. After the finish, I was left to feel confused and frustrated, for the umteempth time.

I clearly have big trouble in pacing my races. Either I think Im going slowly and end up running faster splits than expected, or I think Im going fast but end up running slower splits than expected. Being the 3rd male finisher is barely a consolation for another disappointing performance.

B Rubble Went OK for first couple of miles but then slowed down massively. Was warm (22 degrees or so but not scorching). Went home then did 10 miles to beast myself for being so slow then realised later that I was actually ill and spent the rest of the day in bed. Could have been heat or the gastric bug that Emma had.
