Well done Pen. Maybe that will work as his regular bedtime place. Regarding water in the crate my parents crated their dog and used a large 'hamster bottle' I'm assuming it was a special dog crate one but knowing my parents it might just have been some mad idea they came up with so that the dog had access to water but couldn't spill it. I have no idea if the dog ever used it or if dogs can actually drink from hamster bottles anyway but if it was intended as a proper dog 'thing' it might be an option?

well done Pen. one thing we've been quite lucky with is chester sleeping well through the night (though we still get him up once for toilet). then the other night he cried and whined at 11, 12:30, 2 and 5. thankfully last night seemed to be better again, though it took him longer than usual to settle.

Yes MN Albie has also been really good at night, not a peep and slept through (mostly) since Christmas. It was Sunday night he was suddenly up and crying at 12 and then last night at 11:30.

I wonder if his upstairs crate is now a bit small - plenty of room in it but whippets like to stretch out and he can’t do that upstairs. Or whether it was the hail against the windows. Or a bit of both.

I’ll see how he does in the pen tonight.

Arlo isn't a big fan of his crate. We bought him a bigger one as he grew out of his first one, and he was happy to go into it for a while, and then think he feels he has outgrown the new one as well so we have a battle to get him in every night.

However, when I set up his pen around the crate through the day while I'm working and leave the crate door open, he goes in and goes to sleep in it. So he is quite happy really, just fussy.

His new wooden pen is coming on though and is much taller so he should be happy again once I finish the doors to it.

I feel like I spam this thread with pictures, but thought I'd share arlo in the snow. And I love the one of him in the dark.

Lovely pics Roberto!

I’ve had a tough day. I feel exhausted and haven’t really had a relaxing day or evening since November. Today I reached my limits and just felt I had nothing left for Albie. We’ve muddled along. He got a bit bitey, I got a bit shouty.

I’m trying to find a good dog sitter just to book some time so I can have a bit of respite every now and then. Just an evening or a weekend off would be a help I think to recharge my batteries. If I don’t get some kind of break I’m not sure I can do this. It seems such a long time until he’s more settled and easy to live with and I’m trying with training but it’s not at all easy.

It doesn’t help that my family live 350-1000 miles away and can’t offer any help at all. Work is pretty stressful at the moment too.

Oh Pen, it sounds so tough. I wish I had any ideas, but I've only got arlo to base any advice off.

I don't know your situation, but have you thought about day care? Obviously that's then dependant on what Albie is like with other dogs. We send Arlo once a week to a place in Benton called Paw Pack. He comes back exhausted so we dont have to do anything with him that day.

I don't know any dog sitters up here that do evenings ot overnights unfortunately.

It might not be for you - I personally wouldn't use it but we have a difficult dog - but I know some Fetchies have used and had very good experience with the Borrow my Doggy website might be worth looking at for a bit of respite? Or even doggy day care/kennels perhaps (again maybe that's not for you)? We used to take Wanda to the kennels just for the day so that should she ever need to go for longer than a day it wasn't an alien environment.
