Thanks MN. It’s always helpful to know others have felt the same. I do feel a bit overwhelmed and have had the “what have I done?” thought. I’m hoping to sleep a bit better tonight (I.e. some actual sleep!). My friend has been great - coming over so I can go out for a walk or take a break. He’s going to help with puppy care when I’m at work.

I know it’ll be better - I see my sister’s 7 year old whippet who spends most of his time snoozing on the sofa!

Albie has just had a manic over excited bitey half hour. He’s crashed now. I’m sure we’ll find ways to make progress together. We did have a calm couple of hours earlier during which I was able to get some chores done.

We have had a great couple days because we have been able to tire him out with walks (though still only up to 15 mins with his wee legs), puppy play dates, and today his first puppy class. Definitely helps calm him the rest of the time!

I am with you PenW now 5 nights in with Callie pn my own and was a walking zombie by wednesday. From not coming my out the crate to whining for hours I have resorted to sleeping on the sofa in the room part of the night. Constant cycle of feed play out clean check on cat who is in huff. But worth it seeing her little face playing in grass for first time and giving a paw.

Good luck with your pups! I'm reminded of the days back in 2012 when I first started this thread and billed it as 'support thread for owners of puppies'

Here's my second post:
'There were always dogs around when I was a kid, ours, other people's .... and those urban free range sort of dogs you don't see quite so much of these days (a bit the way playing in the streets has gone*.) Raffo's parents were both RSPCA inspectors - so it's not like he's not used to animals either.

But neither of us has ever raised a puppy.

Help! :-)

*shows extreme age

And then my first anguished question.....
Has anyone any tried and tested none violent methods of curbing extreme nipposity. 12.5 kgs of GSD hanging off one's ankle or elbow ain't pretty.

Awww MN and shyfire. So good to hear from others going through similar.

And yes it does seem to be an endless cycle of feed, play, out, clean sleep etc. From waking to when I go to bed. I’m holding on to the long term benefits.

I’m hoping when he can go out that it starts to help a bit.

I know people around me would help but it’s hard to give someone a non toilet trained puppy to look after!! I’m so grateful to my friend for his help.

What a cutie Sharkie! And yes this afternoon I’ve had a tiny whippet hanging off my legs and that’s not much fun so can’t imagine a GSD!

Such a gorgeous picture of a baby Jess. In some ways we were fortunate that Wanda was something like 8/9 ish months old when we got her. However a fair few horrors had gone on in those early months when really she should have just have been being a puppy and learning what puppies need to learn.... :-(
