Aww D2 lots of happy times with her though - and now you have a Best Boy making new memories with you too.

As the owner of a very manipulative cockapoo it is worth them working out what the pay off is for not going. Ernie is adept at working out how to manipulate a situation to get exactly what he wants. I wonder as well whether you are onto something re: familiarity. Is there a set route and approach that W takes that H doesn't? My sisters BT expects a treat for sitting nicely in a range of very specific spots around their village because that is what BIL does every time.

Thank you! I don't feel so sad this year and it doesn't physically hurt anymore. I just miss her presence and cuddles!

She was such a gorgeous girl, D2 - so gentle. You do have a very different, but equally loveable, bundle of gorgeousness now
I took Poppy to puppy class last night because it was Ellen's birthday and she was being taken out for dinner. Poppy still gets very excited by the whole experience and does a lot of barking when we're sitting listening to the trainer, or if another dog is demonstrating something to the class. She performs all the exercises perfectly though. In fact, it feels as if it's all too easy for her really. This was week 3 and she's not been challenged by anything yet (other than sitting quietly when she's supposed to!). I guess that she's learning from the whole experience, even though all the other dogs there treat her like she's some sort of scary monster! - she's much bigger than all of them. This week, the trainer used her to demonstrate a few things which she loved, of course. The class that starts after Poppy's is full of much bigger breeds who have already done the first course and I can't help thinking that she would be better in that one. I did enjoy having Poppy to myself - she's such good company

D2 ❤️ she was beautiful ((())) I brought Thor home on Saturday, he’s an 8 week old mini dachshund. He’s being very good and even getting the hang of going outside to toilet but I have a slight concern he squeaks a lot especially if he’s not getting attention I am sure he’s not ill as he’s playing eating and drinking fine but is the squeaky noise normal my other dachshund didn’t do it? He sometimes even does it when he’s playing. Also I left him for 7 mins while I talked to the builder about putting the fence up & he was sitting in the corner looking upset he’d pooed on the floor ( fair enough ) I’ve cleaned the floor but now he keeps going back to the corner he was sitting in ( it wasn’t where he pooed ) I don’t intend leaving him long anyway but want him to be able to be left for an hour a day is it ok to start building up to this now or is it too soon? Thank you

Maybe he just feels safe and secure in that corner? I don't have any experience of leaving very little puppies as Wanda was several months old when we got her but we started leaving her in one room (the kitchen) while we were in another room almost from day one - just for a short period of time initially so that she did learn that sometimes she would have to be on her own... we built this up to then leaving the house (just going in the garden initially) and then walking up the road and so on.

I don't think its ever too soon to start explaining the behaviours you want to achieve.
I expect the squeak gets your attention and is his way of getting the behaviours from you that he would like!! Praise and reward the things you like and ignore the rest would be my advice.
With my current dog I used a crate it was the first time I had ever had one, it was nice and big and comfy and it was a huge success for him and for me, I would always do that again with a puppy. Gives them a safe place of their own IMHO.

Oh ok thank you both I will try that I guess I just needed some reassurance I have never had such a tiny puppy. My last one was bigger. I think I just a bit paranoid 😂
