Buses from Windermere railway station to Ambleside roughly every ten minutes throughout the day. Takes about ten minutes and stops virtually outside the front door of the YHA.

I have to pass Ambleside YHA to reach Brathay - I'm happy to offer lifts on race day to anybody who needs one.

WA- fells = much slower going

the two hills I recall in windermere aren't that bad- the one at 20 miles in the town is most unwelcome though at that stage, but then I think its gently downhill until the end

run a rather hilly 10km race today-well timed eh! Ran a negative split and got 59:47 missed a p.b by 10secs! Apparently if I can do that on hills I should be fine for next weekend....please let this be the case!!!

However I am now nursing a thumping headache :(

Yes I think you're right fff. But surely if you can run up and down fells, a few tarmac undulations will be relatively straightforward. I'm hoping to keep a fairly steady pace until the top of the speed bump, and then hoping the gentle downhill will carry me home. (apart from the pull up at the end!)

think I just need to get the brain chemicals back in balance-eletrolyte tablet dissolved in some diet coke and perhaps have some crisps or something as well...not exactly Fetchie Flab Fighters friendly but I really do feel wiped out....I don't feel this crap after a marathon!

Was it warm? Running hard in heat etc etc. Sounds like you did really well though. Which 10k was it?
