Who or what, despite widespread incomprehension and incredulous despair, remains inexplicably popular?

Belief in some sort of ulterior motive to vaccines. Is Brexit still popular? I think almost all people, including most of those fooled into voting for leaving, realise it was a negative thing to happen |

Diogenes It was a hard decision to point it out but was done with no vindictiveness.

On the subject of spelling and grammar, though I'm a bit anal about it myself (even though I'm not perfect either), I think people correcting other people's spelling and grammar mistakes should be on here. It helps no one ('cos those who wrote it wrong either know the rules and made a mistake, or they don't care) and makes the corrector appear less likeable

KPM I'm happy to take that one on the chin! Reasons for writing differ - but getting a point across is central, regardless of the odd missed convention.

I didn't actually mean it as a personal attack, so i'm sorry about that. I was more thinking of myself, as I used to do it all the time and never once did owt positive spring from it, so i've now abandoned it and was just admitting how it makes me feel when I see other people doing it. The way the English-speaking first world is going, I think we're going to start seeing some radical simplifications of the English language before too long, probably apostrophes will be the first things to go.

I didn't read it as such, KPM My 40 years as a teacher have certainly consolidated my views about how English is best written. As to simplification, look no further than the 'shorthand' arising out of mobiles and social media.
