Anna Jones is generally excellent. Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall too. Can you identify what you like about the Pinch of Nom recipes and recreate them without meat? I very rarely follow an actual recipe but adapt based on what I have. I do a lot of batch cooking: bean stews (whatever canned beans I have, tomatoes, onions, garlic, veg such as courgette, squash, pepper, maybe shredded cabbage added at the end, oregano and paprika), dhal, soups. |

We adapt, too, as I'm the only veggie, and LittleD has several food 'things'.

Thanks, LMH! It seems to be good about examining the science to some issues, rather than trotting out the same inaccurate presumptions.

I like Anita Bean and have several of her books Steve. They seem well researched and factual rather than faddy. Don't know if you've found this yet? anitabean.co.uk |

I like Madhur Jaffrey's older books - Flavours of India for example and Anjum Anand has quite a few good books - I've got the first 3. Not all vege, but lots of great vege recipies. I've got the first 2 Moro books too - again not all vege recipes but lots of them are. I've made 3 of their vegetarian soups this week + a Jamie Oliver ribollita. I rate his vege recipes also. |

Is that one of the cookbooks you don't use Hanneke?

Thanks, LMH. I've known about her for a long time but I don't find any of her books on the shelf. Must correct that!

Indeed LMH: never used it... Oops! I was given it by a client but frankly, I tend to head into the garden, puck and forage stuff making it up as I go along. Actually: a cook book that DOES get used, as it works by ingredient, so super useful for those endless courgettes and PSB coming out of the garden: Leith's Vegetarian Bible |
