Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Have bailed out at Sheringham about 80 mile in. It's the last station for the next 90 odd miles.

Weather has been atrocious all night, ten miles of soft sand has killed my legs, and a big mess up with the location of the third treasure.

My first ever DNF - but I am very much at peace with the decision. Will blog it when I get home.

Well done EdJ. That is a hell of a long way to the next aid station. At least a day…

@NDWDave - there were no aid stations (apart from a couple of water/snack ones very early on). I meant railway stations, as there was no sweeper vehicle either. To be fair it was pretty good value for money.

Ah. That makes more sense. The Cockbain stuff is pretty tough but that seemed unbelievably harsh

I think the intent was to make it as Covid-compliant as possible - hence the 'light touch' from the organisers. Had the conditions carried on as they were last night, I'd be worried about people out there on their own.

It was a great idea for a race though, and had the weather been kinder would have been great fun.

The first 60k you had to stick to the Wherryman's way. Once we got to Great Yarmouth there was a What Three Words location for the next one - and you could pick your own route thereafter - althoughthey were all more or less on major national trails. Some of the wandering might have been people dropping and not turning off their tracker - or heading off to find food. I came in land a few times to avoid the soft sand.

That sounds tough sorry you pulled but glad you’re at peace with your decision. Well done for what you did. I’ll keep an eye out for the blog.
